Space Between the Notes is a simple yet deeply compelling feature film about disrupting loneliness and the beautiful chaos that often follows. Adapted from Eugene Stickland’s WO Mitchell award-winning novel The Piano Teacher, this story unfolds around an unexpected, tender connection between two people from vastly different worlds. At its heart lies the transformative power of music and the space it creates for healing, vulnerability, and hope. When Tom, a reclusive and disillusioned concert pianist accidentally crosses paths with Miranda, a curious and quietly courageous nine-year-old girl, neither expects their lives to change. But as notes begin to flow between them, so too does something much greater. Through rich moments of humour, heartbreak, and quiet triumph, Space Between the Notes explores what happens when the human spirit reaches beyond its own limitations. It is a story of intergenerational friendship, mutual discovery, and the kind of unexpected grace that only the love of music can deliver. Ultimately, it’s a film about two souls who long for more, but don’t yet know how to ask for it… until they begin to play.
